Leaving Social Media

For what it’s worth…

On February 06th, I will be deleting all of my social media accounts. If you’d like further context, please feel free to watch the video.

This is not me making a “statement” of any kind, nor is my intent to tell others they should do the same.

You do you.
—————————

During my time in ministry, while there are things I would have done differently, there were a few I felt I got right.

1. Stress the importance of “knowing” the Word of God

2. Teach others to recognize the Holy Spirit as their Teacher

3. Convince them that He indeed does speak to them

4. Obey Him when he speaks

Points 1 through 3 don’t mean much unless you apply 4.

So technically, this is # 4.

Paul told Timothy, “No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.” (2 Timothy 2:4)

Social media has become for me, an entanglement and a distraction. Recognizing we are in a spiritual war, it’s time to get “untangled.”

    Good words, Dan!
Leaving SM is definitely something I’ve contemplated for a good while. Although I’ve scaled back my time on “the apps”, I still think it is time that I “must be doing my Father’s business.”

Well Dan, First thing is this, I agree with everything you said….and secondly you have made me stop and realize that I can do this. I have been pulling away from FB, it is basically the only SM that I am involved in. The last few months I have weened myself from checking my timeline several times a day to maybe once a week and mainly like you, checking on friends and family to see what is going on in their lives. In doing this what stands out to me is the meanness and cruelty that is shown too often by people that I love and admire. After telling myself to just scroll on past the ugliness and following my advice for a year or so I have found that some of it still seeps in and I am left with a sick feeling in my stomach along with anger, shock and disappointment. So I ask myself, why do I continue to do this….is the anger and disappointment I feel from the brief visit worth it and your message above has made me realize no it is not! I have no clue as to how to go about deleting my FB account but with a little help from my 24 year old granddaughter I think it is doable!! Thanks Dan for sharing Brooks, Hendrix and Paxton over the years which has been the best of reasons to go on FB…..specially AB!♥️
