Did God Say? (Part 3)

Ever watch “Antique Roadshow“ on PBS? If not, here’s a synopsis of the show.

“Collectors discover that they can turn trash into treasure, thanks to the appraisal skills of the show’s specialists in antiques and fine art.”

One man’s trash may be another man’s treasure, but you may need an expert to know the difference.

In an article entitled, “10 of the most valuable Antiques Roadshow finds,” here’s #2. “In Corpus Christi, Texas, in 2012, a man brought in a painting by Diego Rivera, which had been hanging behind a door in a family home. Dated to 1904, El Albañil was authenticated and appraised by Colleene Fesko, who put the value at $800,000–$1 million. The value was updated in 2018, potentially retailing at $1.2 million–$2.2 million.”

Did you catch that? A painting valued as high as $2.2 million was “hanging behind a door in a family home.” That’s where you’d place it when you don’t know it’s worth.

As a new Believer, I was surprised to learn how many Christians perceive the Holy Spirit. Failing to recognize His infinite worth, you may find him “hanging behind a door in the family home.” Many see Him as some “cosmic force” and not the 3rd person of the Trinity.

If I could accomplish but one thing in my life and ministry, it would be this…

To awaken Christians to know the priceless gift we’ve been given in the person of the Holy Spirit!

If you’re born again (a prerequisite), the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in you. (Ro 8:11) Many know this verse in theory, far less in practice. How many Believers read it with a yawn. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead, lives in you! “The same Spirit…that raised Christ…from the dead…lives…in you.”

Many names are given to the Spirit of God, including Holy Spirit, Counselor, Comforter, Spirit of Adoption, Spirit of Judgment, and more. But here, I want to focus on one of my favorites.

The Spirit of Truth.

We live in a time where it’s extremely difficult to know the truth in regard to earthly matters. Lies have become the new norm, and with the collapse of our institutions leaving us with no real accountability, we’re left wondering who to believe. And with the introduction of artificial intelligence it will only get worse.

Satan is a lair, and the father of lies. (Jn 8:44) One of his most effective is to convince a follower of Christ they are unable to truly understand the things of God. That it’s too complex and beyond their ability to discern. They aren’t smart enough, holy enough, spiritual enough, or qualified. That it’s only for a select few, and they’re not one of chosen.

But here’s what Jesus said in John 14:26 (AMP) “But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you” (emphasis mine)

If you haven’t already, you need to fully understand the “Spirit of truth” is in you.

John 14:16-17 (NKJV) “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (emphasis mine)

John 15:26 (NKJV) “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.” (emphasis mine)

John 16:12-15 (NKJV) “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.z’ (emphasis mine)

What do you suppose the man with the painting now valued at nearly $2.2 million dollars did when he got home? Do you think it’s once again hanging behind a door in the family home?

Better question…

What are you going to do with the “Spirit of truth?”
