Wanna Be More
The song “Wanna Be More” by BeBe and CeCe Winans captures the heart cry of Jesus. (I’ve included the song in this post, please listen)
Here’s the chorus…
I wanna be more than just somebody
I wanna be more than just a friend
I wanna be more than someone special
See, ’cause special friends sometimes won’t understand
Jesus wants to be more, but do we let him?
If I could say the one thing we all need in today’s world, it would be to know God.
Paul said he counted everything a loss for the excellency of knowing Christ, and the power of His resurrection. (Ph 3:7-11)
To know him intimately.
Not a casual approach to the relationship, but a deep intimacy.
I wonder if in the process of making Jesus “acceptable” we have become too casual in our commitment to the relationship. Both personally, and corporately (in the church). Are we settling for so much less than what we could truly have? What Jesus truly wants?
I think that’s a great question.
“Wanna Be More”
BeBe & CeCe Winans
[Verse 1: BeBe Winans]
In the course of this life
Some friends you gain, some you lose
And in the back of your mind
You’re searching for love without the blues
That’s why I’ve come from far away
To take away the blues, and I’ve come to say…
[Chorus: BeBe Winans]
I wanna be more than just somebody
I wanna be more than just a friend
I wanna be more than someone special
‘Cause special friends sometimes won’t understand
[Verse 2: BeBe Winans]
Now we can laugh and share the pain
All of the tears and joyous gains
And when all others fail to show
Hope you believe and always know
That I’ll be with you ’til the end
Not just the good times like fairweather friends because…
[Chorus: BeBe Winans]
I wanna be more than just somebody
I wanna be more than just a friend
I wanna be more than someone special
See, ’cause special friends sometimes won’t understand
