Learning to Fish – Introduction
We live in a time of great deception. A world filled with misinformation, disinformation, and outright lies. Knowing who, or what to believe is a constant challenge. With the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) it is becoming increasingly more difficult, and will continue to be so.
The same can be said regarding The Church.
While I speak of “The Church” is general terms, the problem is widespread and impacts both Catholics and Protestants. Methodists and Baptists. Pentecostals and Lutherans.
No one is exempt.
Biblical illiteracy is a serious problem, and it needs to be addressed.
The failure of The Church to not only teach the Word, but to train their congregants in the study of Scripture is having catastrophic consequences. It’s given rise to the “Word of Faith” movement (“Prosperity Gospel”), offering the listener an alternative lifestyle free of repentance and sacrifice, and is fueling the “Prophetic Ministry” movement designed to deceive and manipulate those who are shallow in, or void of saving faith.
Many profess knowing Jesus, yet don’t possess eternal life. They self-identify as followers of Christ but have entered through the wrong gate.
Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!” (Matt 7:21-23)
You’ve probably heard the saying, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” Giving a man a fish provides temporary relief, but teaching him how to fish is a better long-term solution.
Many churches have we’ve gotten pretty good at a Sunday morning “Fish Fry,” providing the sustenance needed to get attendees through the week, but if they’re not teaching them how to catch their own, they’ll have a growing dependance on Sunday mornings as their sole source of nourishment and that’s never what God intended.
So if you’re interested in learning “how to fish,” here’s your invitation to join me on this adventure. I may not know ALL of the best fishing holes, but I know quite a few.
And I know what you need to get started.
