Obedience
Obedience to the Word of God is not only how we mature in the faith and become more like Christ, it also keeps us from unnecessary suffering the consequences of poor life choices. Without the Holy Spirit to guide and restrain, it’s easy to run headlong into the pain and suffering disobedience can bring. Satan was able to convince Eve that God’s commandment not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was meant not to protect, but to withhold something far better than what she already possesed. She believed the lie that says God is holding back a “better” thing, and His commandments “get in the way” of experiencing life to the fullest.
It’s easy to criticize Eve for her choice, but how many times have we believed the same lie. How many times have we foolishly believed we knew better than God.
Learn to obey the commandments of God and live the life He has for you.
Learn to obey the first time He speaks, and save yourself a lot of heartache.
“This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,” – 1 John 5:2-3
